One of my criticisms of the first in Insomniac’s series was how uninspired many of the showdowns felt, with their quicktime-heavy fights making a light impact. Improvements were made in Miles Morales, but here in the full-fledged sequel, boss battles really come to life. You’re made to wait a little too long for them sometimes, but when they do arrive they never fail to excite. They are evolving brawls packed full of danger that put all of your skills to the test. Dodges and parries are key, as well as using environmental tools dotted around the arenas for your benefit.
We present the map, Spider-bots, Costumes, Prowler’s Caches, Symbiont Nests, Photos, Marko’s Memories, Mysteria, Brooklyn Visions, FEM Experiments, Flame, Hunter’s Curtains. There are skills for Peter, skills for Miles, and shared abilities — and absolutely everything can be upgraded in one playthrough. Individual skills will benefit one character or the other, while the common tree will enhance both. Development includes increasing health, damage, acrobatics, and recovery speed of moves.

Enemy behavior has also been updated, teaching them new moves and basic searching for heroes on the ceiling, and the roster of opponents has been expanded. Bosses in the game are diverse, but battles with them are simple and straightforward, as they are manually assembled into action episodes of fights, flights, and non-irritating QTEs.
Alternatively, can also focus on Stealth Crimes (which are slightly random), but going invisible with Miles is the easiest option. If an enemy shows “Danger” when aiming at him, it means doing the takedown will get you spotted, so avoid this. Check all enemies in an area to take them out one by one in stealth. You can still do it after the story in the open world, enemies keep spawning infinitely in Crimes (you can go invisible as Miles and focus on stealth Crimes which are random). If you still need any combat-related trophies try to pair them up with Collectibles, many of them feature enemies. Getting bronze medals in the Mysterium Challenges is enough for trophy purposes, no need to get silver or gold.
It feels like it’s in danger of repeating the flaws of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 at times — and not just because of a certain long-tongued menace. It’s enough of a roller coaster to hold your interest, and the way the city physically changes and evolves to fit the ongoing narrative is impressive (from ‘post-Sandman attack’ to ‘overrun with big game hunters’ and beyond). But from a project this obviously big and expensive, it all feels disappointingly undercooked.
Check which additional suits the more expensive versions of the game offer and what you will receive if you pre-order the game. Miles, possessing electrical powers, uses skills related to this ability. At the beginning of the game, he feels even stronger than older Peter.
